New website for artist and master marquetarian Paul Schürch
I recently completed a new website (veneerartist.com) for Santa Barbara, CA master woodworker Paul Schürch. He does amazing veneer and inlay work, cabinetry and furniture design and also experimental art and fashion with wood veneer. Before I met Paul I had never heard the term “marquetry”, when I first heard him mention it, I thought he said something about marketing. For those of you who are like me, marquetry (also spelled as marqueterie) is the art and craft of applying pieces of veneer to a structure to form decorative patterns, designs or pictures. Well anyway, that’s what Paul does and he is a master marquetarian.
Paul has had a busy website for many years (schurchwoodwork.com) that shows his work, his instructional materials and has a shop with veneering tools and supplies, but he wanted this new website to be separate from the online store and classes and to be more about him as an artist and craftsman. So that is what I set out to do.
We chose to do the site using the Genesis framework. I designed a new logo for Paul and created a custom Genesis template and Paul chose the excellent Justified Image Grid plugin to use for the galleries. I also incorporated a zooming feature to each of the gallery pages with the WP-ImageZoom plugin.
